Worship - The Gathering Circle
The Pecan Street Mission community gathers each Sunday from 10:00-11:30am in the Methodist Activity Center (MAC) on the campus of First United Methodist Church of Decatur (104 S. Miller St.).
“The Gathering Circle” is an experience of worship in-the-round. A diverse, multi-generational community gathers in a large circle to enter into a space where we are formed into a whole greater than the sum of our parts. We engage our hearts by participating in interactive spiritual practices such as communal singing, meditative breath prayer, lighting candles, or celebrating communion. Then we engage our heads, opening the circle for discussion as we reflect on God’s presence in scripture, God’s presence in our lives, and God’s presence in the world around us. There is no expert with the answers, but rather we build the “sermon” together through small group conversations.
Although worship is a family-friendly environment, optional Nursery Care is always available for children 4 years and younger (including infants). Since we believe children are vitally important to the Kingdom of God, there is always a “Pray Ground” – designed child-friendly space for kids to be just that, kids! Often, we learn more about God from our children in worship than any sermon could ever teach. From the youngest to the oldest, this a place for families to worship together!
Dress is casual, the pastor will be in jeans and chacos most Sundays. Please wear whatever feels most comfortable and fitting for you. Our worship space is also designed to allow for social distancing and face coverings are encouraged.
No matter who you are or where you are from, you belong here!
